A hedge can be a stylish way of marking the boundaries of your garden. However, it doesn’t just have to be functional – it’s also a way of adding shape to your garden, and creating separate areas within it. A hedge can provide privacy from neighbours, make your garden more sheltered and provide a feature or focal point within the space.
If you enjoy encouraging wildlife into your garden, hedges are a great way of helping you to do this. They are a haven for birds, insects and small mammals. You’ll attract birds such as Dunnocks, Wrens, Blackbirds and Robins, which may even decide to build their nests in your garden. Shrews, Wood Mice and Hedgehogs will also enjoy the shelter provided by the base of the hedge, so you’ll be helping wildlife of all shapes and sizes to make your garden their home.
Decorative hedges can make an excellent backdrop for plants, flowers and water features. A taller hedge placed behind a smaller hedge with a water feature running in between the two can make for a stylish and contemporary look. The expanse of neutral green background will look attractive framed by plants of various colours, so it’s a great way of adding interest to your garden whilst retaining a styled and landscaped look.

There is also a lot of work that you can plan to do inside of your home; both changes which are practical and functional improvements, as well as those which are purely aesthetic. There are a wide variety of things you can do, so it definitely merits some investigation before you actually reach a decision.
