We’ve previously talked the materials used for cladding, but another variation which is going to have a big impact on the appearance of the exterior cladding, is the style of the panels. Sometimes these cladding panels are slotted into place in the same way that brick laying is done, but you can also have them lay on top of the one below, resembling roof shingles.
You find that both types are used for all three types of cladding materials; wood, metal and stone. You find that with those which aren’t laid over one another, the panels are typically more square in shape, while those which are are far more diverse in the shapes and sizes, particularly with wood.
The most popular type of cladding is cedar panelling, which is very adept at presenting a rustic, cabin-in-the-woods type of look for a home. Often times the panels which make up the cladding are very long width wise and lain atop the ones below.
