Natural light helps to make your home beautiful. It’s an essential component of being healthy and happy, so why shouldn’t you bring in as much of it as possible? It’s also important in creating a beautiful, modern-looking home that is right on trend. Here are some ideas to help you use natural light as much as possible in your home:

  • Build a conservatory or orangery. This will give you a lovely, calming space to relax in, as well as letting in more light. You could knock out a wall and build it onto a part of the house that doesn’t get a lot of light, brightening up additional areas as well. Use your new room to grow flowers, to entertain, to enjoy some me time… the choice is yours.
  • Use rooflights and skylights. These can help to brighten up a room that doesn’t have space for a lot of windows, such as an extended kitchen. Even on a dull day, it will add more natural light than you might imagine.
  • Install sun tubes. These are like a smaller version of a rooflight that can bring sunlight into hard to reach places. They can be fitted into all the nooks and crannies in your home, so they’re especially useful if you have spaces that tend to be sheltered from the sun or a particularly dark hallway.
  • Use light, bright colours to create the illusion of natural light. This will help to open up a room and make it seem more spacious. It’s especially important in more enclosed spaces like hallways or in a smaller bedroom. You can choose neutral shades like creams and off-whites, or you can choose pale pastel shades that are bright yet not oppressive.

Use these ideas to begin creating a home that is beautiful and relaxing. It will feel like you’ve added extra space when really, all you’ve added is extra light.
