It can be fun and rewarding to build your own water feature. The process is enjoyable for any DIY enthusiast and the end product will look great. Here are the steps which you will need to complete in order to build your own stone water feature:

  1. To begin with, you will need the right equipment. You should have a pump, 1/2 inch copper pipe, stones, small rocks and drainage gravel, a waterproof basin, a female adaptor, a ball valve, a screen to protect the pump and a PVC conduit to enclose the power cord.
  2. Dig a hole big enough to house the basin. It should be a couple of inches bigger. You might also want to lay the conduit and secure the plug at this stage as well.
  3. Fit the pump and its screen in the centre of the basin. Connect it up to the pipe, fitting the ball valve into the length of the pipe by cutting off a small length of the pipe and fixing it either side of the valve.
  4. Drill through the stones and pile them up with the copper pipe running through the middle.
  5. Fill the base with water, then plug in, switch on and see what happens. You will be able to use the ball valve to adjust the pressure.
