Using the Correct Counter Weights with a Crane

Estrada Design & Build random banner image

When using a crane, you need to use counter weights in order to offset the weight of the load you are lifting. This will allow you to lift a load without destabilising the crane itself – something that could be incredibly dangerous for your lifting processes and for the people working on site.

If you are using counter weights for a mobile crane or other type of crane, they need to be correct. Check the weight of the load before you consider how and when you are going to lift it. You can then consider counter weights on the crane, and the whole process that you will go through to ensure the load is lifted safely and accurately. You should always have the load and weighting system double checked by more than one person, and it should be verified by someone senior, like a site supervisor. This ensures that corners aren’t cut and you are ready to lift safely.
